6Oth Anniversary Celebrations

Diamond
Jubilee Ball
The finale of our Diamond Jubilee
celebrations was the Ball held on Saturday 25th June. What a night!! The
hall looked amazing, balloons, sparkly glasses, fairy lights & diamond
studded dance programmes all greeted the dancers as they arrived. After
a glass of punch in the foyer, (too windy to go outside,) Ken Unsworth
piped in the Hon. President, Hon. Vice President, committee members &
our invited guests. The dancing began straight away & the floor was full
all evening. The programme of dances was a good choice, everyone was in
good form & danced the night away.
Di Rooney proposed a toast to the branch & invited Rita Ackers & Rachel
Phillips, 2 of our founder members to cut the cake. A very surprised
Chair of the Branch, Hazel Astle was presented with a Branch Award for
her long service. It is not often she is left speechless, words failed
her for once but she was greatly honoured.

An excellent supper was served, plenty of variety and lots of it, then
the dancing began again.
By the time David Queen our MC for the night announced the last dance,
everyone was just about ready to go home. Marian Anderson & her band as
always gave us the will to keep going, she played wonderful tunes and we
all managed to stay the course despite a very warm evening. By 11.45pm,
the committee breathed a sigh of relief, a very successful evening, all
had gone well and everyone had enjoyed it so much.
If you came to the Ball, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
That brings our formal celebrations to an end, we have two more
classes---just as well as we have some cake and bubbly to finish off! The
coming season will be tame in contrast, but enjoyable non the less.

Party Night
at the Branch
The 60th birthday celebrations started off on 9th February with a party
for our members, some previous members & invited guests from Oakvale URC.
The evening took the form of a ceilidh, lots of dancing for the
inexperienced and the more able, plus circle dances to include our
guests.
A break during the evening allowed us to enjoy Gerry Jones leading us in
singing some familiar Scottish songs. And of course supper, a simple
affair so no one was left in the kitchen for too long. Eric, our Hon.
President, raised a toast to the continuing success of the Branch.
The photo boards were a great hit, some from way back in the 60’s, right
through to more recent times. Included were photos of our weekend breaks
at Bettyfold & other non dancing events.
It was a very successful evening, lovely to see so many of our friends
who no longer dance at our Branch, and to have Rita Ackers, one of our
founder members, with us. So many memories to share, sometimes the
dancing got in the way!!! By the end of the evening we were all
ready for home and a cuppa. Next time we shall extend the evening
to get more catching up done.
Anniversary Dance - Court Hey Methodist Church, 12th February 2011
We continued our celebrations with a
dance at Court Hey Church. Once again everyone seemed to enjoy the
evening, the programme was quite simple and the supper was
excellent. Our Hon. President, Eric Astle again raised a toast to the
Branch and its members.
We will celebrate in style in June when the Ball will be the climax of
our 60th year. Until then, the classes, Teach-In sessions and
Dance Extravaganza with Radio
Merseyside will keep us all pretty busy!
