WHAT WE DO

*NEW*
60th Anniversary Celebrations

Our aim is to provide the public, in the Liverpool area, with the opportunity to learn Scottish country dancing.

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Liverpool Branch holds weekly classes for beginners and more experienced dancers. In addition, social functions throughout the year provide the opportunity for all dancers to dance to some of the best musicians available.

Local churches and clubs also enjoy the "Teach-In" which takes Scottish country dancing out into the community and offers a wider audience the opportunity to experience this form of dance in their own environment.

After our recent success at the Palm House, some members of the branch took Scottish Country Dancing out into the community. We returned to Cronton C of E school to join the Rev. Pauline Makin & some of the congregation from the Cronton churches for a “teach in”. Willing volunteers danced throughout the evening and after supper they continued well into the night.

St. Philamons in Toxteth also invited us to return to dance with their parishioners. Once again, every one joined in and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, no problem getting the congregation to participate!!

Back at the classes, visiting teachers came along during the summer term and gave us the opportunity to dance some interesting dances we had not tried before. It is a welcome change for the Branch teachers and much appreciated.

Our new season began with a” teach in” at Oakvale Church early in September. The Elders at the church had organised a week of activities for stay at home holidaymakers, we were the mid week entertainment!!

Some of the crowd were unable to join in for various reasons, those who did get up to dance thoroughly enjoyed themselves, two of them have since been along to our classes. It was a new venture for us, and the members of the branch who gave up an afternoon to help out also enjoyed themselves. No problem getting the sets made up, everyone was willing to have a go. Maybe a return visit next year, we shall see.

The next “teach in” was at the beginning of October and was held in the well of the Anglican Cathedral. It was a new event for the organisers, not only Scottish country dancing, but barn dancing with live music, also a young man sang some well known songs accompanying himself on the piano while we had a very pleasant supper. The same young man also played the organ while we all sat in complete darkness, the lights coming on gradually to light the Cathedral. That was indeed a magical experience!! We are all hoping this will become an annual event, I wonder what they will wow us with next time.
